Complete the checklist below to become the newest Cardinal in the Nest!
If you have not completed your application yet, see the application requirements for freshman students.
If you are a transfer student, see the next steps for admitted transfer students.
Apply for financial aid beginning Oct. 1 each year to qualify for state, federal and university grants (UIW FAFSA code: 003578). Visit the Financial Aid page to learn more.
Meet with your admissions counselor to review your financial aid award letter. When ready, confirm your attendance by submitting your $200 confirmation fee to begin the enrollment process. This step does not apply to part-time or non-degree seeking students.
Once you have submitted your confirmation fee, you'll receive an email from the UIW Help Desk within three days to set up Cardinal Apps for the first time. Cardinal Apps is the place to do many tasks such as:
- Access email
- Complete orientation modules
- Take classes
- Get involved at UIW
The email from the UIW Help Desk will have your UIW email and your temporary password. You will also need your student ID (UIW calls it your PIDM) which is on your acceptance letter and in the email you received about your acceptance.
Texas State Law mandates that all students under the age of 22 entering a Texas college or university provide proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis during the five years preceding admission to the University. You may submit your vaccination record in PDF format to admissiondocs@uiwtx.edu. Be sure to include your PIDM or date of birth. The Office of Admissions cannot accept meningitis medical records.
Note: You must have your meningitis shot on record, if applicable, to enroll in classes and apply for on-campus housing.
Orientation registration will open April 1, 2023. Once you confirm your attendance to UIW, register for orientation and complete other Next Steps to complete your enrollment.
Since the University of the Incarnate Word is test optional, to be correctly placed in college level math, students not meeting the minimum requirements must take the UIW Mathematics Placement through ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (PPL) to be placed in remedial math course (no credit).
Students who meet the following criteria do not need to take the ALEKS:
- 550 SAT Math minimum or 22 ACT Math minimum
- 350 minimum on TSI Math
- "C" or higher in dual credit Math course
Students can complete the UIW Mathematics Placement through ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (PPL).
Information about on-campus housing is available on the Residence Life website. Applications for housing can be completed through the StarRez student housing portal found in your Cardinal Apps.
Access the Canvas app through Cardinal Apps and complete the online new student orientation modules before your orientation date. The orientation modules will be available after you confirm your attendance and receive your student log in credentials. Students are required to complete all modules to be able to register for classes.
After completing your online new student orientation modules, your advisor will email you information regarding which courses you will need to enroll in for your first semester. Once you receive this information, you will be able to register for courses! Should you have any questions, please contact your advisor at University Advising Center at (210) 805-5814.
Note: It's important to remember that you will not be allowed to register for courses until you have submitted your meningitis record, if applicable, and completed the online new student orientation modules.
Submit your final official documents to admissiondocs@uiwtx.edu or mail official high school transcripts to the address below. If you have dual credit, also submit an official college transcript.
